Peace

I have prayed for peace for others and they usually don't get any.  I pray for peace for myself and always get it.

Why do I get peace and others don't?  We have to want it more than our dramas, which include worry, anxiety, anger, control, depression, unrealistic expectations, etc.

Inner peace comes when we unattach ourselves from the cares of this world and attach ourselves to Jesus for spiritual growth.  Only He can give us the miraculous peace that surpasses all understanding in all situations.

Be Unattached

Jesus wants us to travel through this world without being attached to it.  So, I have been working on getting rid of the physical things in my life that I love.

This is a touchy subject for Christians, so I want to clarify what I mean.  When we are attached to physical things, the things become more important than people, being organized, financial responsibility, eating healthy, etc.

Then things become our important relationship, security and comfort, instead of Jesus.  This does not mean we have nothing, but choose very carefully and prayerfully what we allow in our lives, so we do not put obstacles between us and God.

We must put our time and resources into the "things" we take with us into the next life, like love, spiritual growth, doing God's will, truth, etc.  Jesus wants to help us and He's only a prayer away!

A Joyous Miracle

When I visited my daughter that had almost died last year, she was smiling and glowing with extreme happiness.  I asked her what was going on?

She told me that she gave her whole life over to Jesus and He filled her with His love, peace and joy.  Then she explained how easy it was with Him as her leader and how very difficult it was when she was doing it herself.

Praise the Lord! Jesus' love and support is just a prayer away.

Become Holy For Christ

As an important Christian leader, Apostle Peter wrote to the churches in Asia Minor addressing their persecutions.

He explained that suffering tested their faith, so they needed to prepare for action, be self-controlled and set their hope on Christ Jesus.

Peter challenged them to become holy by ridding themselves of all malice, deceit, envy, hypocrisy and slander, while becoming peaceful, gentle and submissive to all.

While Christians are still persecuted for Christ, this oppression should not be a needed reminder to gain holiness.  Any Christian can become self-controlled, peaceful, gentle and submissive.

Why a Christian would want to stay a malicious, deceitful, envious, slanderous hypocrite is a question that can still be asked today.  Christ still calls us to set an example for this fallen world and not to be just a part of it.  He is available 24/7 to facilitate this holy change, so ask to rise above the world and not to just wallow in the muck here.

Work Hard For Love!

In Apostle Paul's second letter to Timothy, he encouraged his spiritual son to be strong, confident, calm in all situations and prepared for any thing, because all followers of Jesus Christ will be persecuted.

Paul advised him to turn away from worldly affairs, like godless chatter, resentment, foolish arguments and quarreling about words.  Also, Timothy needed to lead a holy life of righteousness, faith, love, truth, kindness, gentleness and peace.

This is excellent advice on how Christians should conduct their lives today.  If the followers of Christ exhibited these holy examples, their churches would be peaceful and filled with love.

However, being loving requires hard work to accomplish, and it is so much easier to quarrel and blame.

Seek Contentment

Apostle Paul wrote to his son in the faith, Timothy, instructions for the ministry and church members.

To promote godliness, Timothy should preach and teach, while avoiding conflict.  Believers needed godliness with contentment and to not seek financial gain, because the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil.

After 2,000 years, this wise advice is still timely.  Conflict and greed still cause horrible tragedies at both a small level within the family and larger global levels.

Obviously, humans are too selfish to not repeat history and need their Lord for contentment, so sincerely seek Him in prayer.

Think Positive!

While in prison, Apostle Paul wrote to the Philippians about Jesus Christ.  He wanted their love to grow in knowledge, so they could discern what was best.

He told them to follow his example and not be frightened but to strive for spiritual maturity by focusing on the noble, gentle, true, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent and praiseworthy things.

Spiritual growth comes from reducing the negative worldly programing and increasing loving, holy thinking.

While this is an easy concept to understand, actually replacing the negative thinking with positive can be very difficult because the world glorifies and rewards the bad.

To win against this unloving world, people can accept Jesus Christ into their hearts and then pray to Him for this exchange.

Mature Spiritually

When Apostle Paul wrote to the Ephesians, he told them how pleased he was with their love and wanted them to be filled with the full measure of God.

He urged them to reach spiritual maturity, so every wind of teaching and cunning by deceitful men would not corrupt them.  To do this, they must be truthful, faithful, humble, gentle, patient, loving, thankful, complimentary, peaceful, respectful, righteous, good and holy.

After people believe and accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior, then they must begin the work of spiritual growth.  Any Christian that follows the world with its violence, anger, greed, bitterness, slander, fear, etc. are immature.

These immature Christians have caused horror and tragedy in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, who said to love our enemies and turn the other cheek.

Equality Under God

Apostle Paul wrote to the Galatians in defense of his ministry.

Through their faith and salvation in Jesus Christ, everyone became equal.  As believers in Christ, they received freedom in the Spirit to serve one another in love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, faithfulness and self-control.

Once people accept Jesus Christ and have the Holy Spirit, they realize everyone is equal under God.

Then why so many violent Christians?  Using the Christian label does not make people Christians unless they live in step with the Spirit by showing their fruits of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, faithfulness and self-control.

Choose Wisely!

The Bible book of Romans was one of many letters that Apostle Paul wrote to teach and strengthen the believers of Jesus Christ.

While Paul addressed many issues, he focused on how to become more spiritual.

He told them to use their gifts, have sincere love, hope with joy, be patient in affliction, pray faithfully, practice hospitality, share with others, bless their persecutors, live in harmony, submit to authorities, never judge and accept one another.

Paul's wise advice can be used by everyone that wants to grow spiritually.

We all make decisions everyday that bring us closer to God or further away.  Make wise choices for eternity!

Start The Year With Change

The best was to keep a New Year's resolution is to address the problem directly.

Way too often people decide to change their lives based on the symptoms of their problems and not the real issues.

Without the desire to resolve the fear, anger, selfishness, blaming, loneliness, worthlessness, etc. from unhealthy thinking, the symptoms will continue in one form or another.

The only real change comes from digging down deep and taking a stand against the old negative self.

Start the New Year with a new positive self.  If you need some help, remember that God is only a prayer away!

Happy New Year!

Stop Addictions

Songs of Songs in the Bible poetically describes a beautiful love story.  King Solomon wrote this when he had 60 wives and 80 concubines, so he was not lacking in experience.

This romance sounds so exciting that one would think Solomon never married again, but he collected another 640 wives and 220 concubines.  What could one man do with 1,000 women?

Addictions can come in many forms, but they are all destructive.  Obsessive behavior clouds our thinking and becomes an obstacle in the relationship with God.

We have to recognize the problem, understand the cause, exert our will power, pray for help and never give up until the harmful desire is eliminated.

Embrace Your Purpose

Queen Esther in the Bible book of Esther saved her people, the exiled Israelites, from genocide.

Esther began poor, but God placed her in the right position at the right time to make this courageous act.  When she was first kidnapped, Esther did not know this was the beginning of her spiritual destiny.

Everyone is born with a purpose and the abilities to fulfill it.  God directs humans again and again towards their spiritual destinies but many fail because of their worldly programing.

People can only find inner peace and true happiness when they embrace their real purpose in life.

Become Loving

During the numerous subsequent reigning leaders in 2 Kings of the Bible, God sent many prophets and a prophetess to help Judah and Israel.  No matter how good and righteous one king ruled, this could all reverse with the next one.  When the negative finally out weighted the positive, these countries fell to their foreign enemies.

Like nations, people are a mix of negative and positive attributes bombarded with lots of choices.  Some of these decisions will be beneficial and some can even cause destruction.  All people can build up their positive thinking and reduce the negative to grow personally and spiritually.

While there are many arguments for keeping negative beliefs, the best reason to change is for following the one true God.  When humans change their thinking at a deep level to predominately loving thoughts, they become closer to their Lord.  God is Love and wants His human creation to love, also.

Evolve Spiritually

Humans are born into the "drama" of physical life.  While the amount of  "drama" varies greatly, people can reduce negative experiences by changing their internal unconscious programing.

God created this illusionary world for learning and growing spiritually.  People need to appreciate their wonderful gift of life and take this opportunity to develop their souls.

To accomplish this growth, humans need to love themselves, others and God.

With this sincere love demonstrated, people would be peaceful, forgiving, gentle, humble, kind, joyful, patient, faithful and self-controlled.

Relationships Are Love

Jesus Christ gave commandments about love because humans need to learn about love through relationships, so they can grow spiritually.

The foundation for creating love is sincerely liking, respecting, forgiving and listening to ourselves.

Self-love is believed to be bad because it is so often mistaken for the vain, ego-driven, selfish, low self-esteem type of love, which is not love at all.

When we learn how to love ourselves, then this ability can be extended to God and others with amazing results.

Choose Beneficial Thinking

People fill their minds with needless worry, pointless busy work, futile judging, useless efforts rescuing or controlling others, harmful self-criticism and ineffectual future planning.

To change this internal chatter, people can become objective referees to consider both sides of every life experience by contemplating its value and understanding the purposes.

Since obtaining this loving insight is a process, people need to invest in themselves and take the time to choose beneficial thinking.

Successful Listening

All successful people use internal self-talk and self-listening in a supportive and beneficial way.

Since people have both helpful and critical voices in their heads, they should only listen to the beneficial ones that are:

A - accurate
S - supportive
K- kind

Any internal negative critics should be ignored or, better yet, fired and replaced with a loving judge.

Fill Up On Love

The more negativity people have; the more "drama" enslaves them, and the less love they have to give others.

Since negativity has its foundation in fear and anger, when people reduce these emotions, their love capacity will increase.

If people are filled with love, they become freer and lighter with their actions reflecting this feeling. Then others can enjoy their acceptance and compassion.

Love Yourself By Changing Yourself

When you have self love, you will want to be the best person you can.

One way to create this improvement is to write a journal about your life to find areas of resistance, doubts or negative thoughts that need to be changed.

After separating out these areas to change, you can develop a counter argument for each one and put these on index cards to read over and over until your thoughts are changed.
